Sephiria beginner guide: your first decisions
A practical first route through Sephiria's tower, weapons, artifacts, and the choices that matter on a first run.

Understand the loop
Sephiria is a top-down action roguelite: enter the tower, choose routes and encounters, collect artifacts, upgrade your weapon, and return stronger after each run. The official store page describes six weapons, artifacts empowered by tablets, more than sixty enemy types, and a six-chapter journey.
Your first goal is not a perfect build. Learn which room types, upgrades, and combat actions you can repeat safely, then keep a short note of what made the run stable.
Pick one weapon direction
The game has six distinct weapons with large upgrade trees. Stay with one weapon family long enough to understand its normal attack, dash, and special attack before comparing it to another.
When an artifact looks strong, ask whether it improves the action your weapon already wants you to repeat. A coherent early route is easier to learn than a pile of unrelated bonuses.
What to check after each run
Review the weapon you used, the stat that carried the most value, and the upgrade that changed your route. This gives you three concrete questions for the next run instead of a long list of upgrades to chase.
For co-op, also write down which player created space, who revived safely, and which drops were traded. The official feature list confirms online co-op for up to four players.
A safe first-run route
On the first floor, value information over speed: inspect the route, learn the room shape, and keep one defensive option available before committing to a risky upgrade. When a choice is unclear, take the option that makes your next room easier to read.
At the end of the run, write down one successful action and one failure. That tiny log becomes more useful than copying a late-game build before you understand the basic loop.
Mistakes that cost early runs
The common trap is spending every resource as soon as it appears. Leave a margin for a safer route, a revive, or an upgrade that completes the direction you have already chosen.
Do not compare damage from two weapons in different upgrade states. Compare the same room, the same distance, and the same job: clear, survive, or punish a boss window.
Follow this order
- 01Set up the village
Find Ken, the Journal, and Destiny Inscription before the first serious run.
- 02Choose one branch
Use one weapon direction long enough to understand its range, recovery, and first upgrade.
- 03Keep one safety valve
Reserve a defensive or movement answer for crowded rooms instead of spending every choice on damage.
- 04Write the next experiment
After the run, keep one success and one failure so the next attempt has a clear purpose.
Before you commit to this route
- Choose one weapon direction before chasing rare drops
- Keep one defensive option for crowded rooms
- Write down the first upgrade that changed your route
- Re-check names and values in the current Journal
